How to change an almost 8 month old

1. Put wiggly baby on the floor (because it is much, much too scary to change him on the changing table now)
2. Lay baby on back
3. Turn baby back to his back
4. Manage to get his pants off
5. Catch him before he gets out the door, take lamp cord or whatever else he may have already gotten to, out of his hand
6. Repeat steps 2-3
7. Remove diaper while holding both of baby's feet in one hand
8. Get arm workout while baby tries to flip and crawl out of your grasp
9. Catch baby, who has of course, gotten out of your grasp
10. Try to distract baby with a toy, a blanket...anything!
11. Wipe baby
12. Catch baby again
13. Explain to baby why we don't play with dirty diapers.
14. Repeat steps 2-3
15. Put clean diaper under baby
16. Fasten half of diaper
17. Catch baby and refasten half of diaper
18. Fasten the other side of the diaper
19. Somehow get baby into pants
20. Place baby into "cage" while dirty diaper gets put into wet bag and hands are washed

Take baby out of cage and head downstairs for the next fun activity of the day.

Repeat again in 2 hours.

Blah!

Sorry for the lack of posting lately! I came down with something on Sunday night and I am just now starting to feel like a human again. I had a fever paired with a sore throat and a cough. I've pretty much been sleeping the past few days (when Jackson lets me!)
I am feeling much better today, my fever is gone for the moment but I'm still dealing with a stuffy nose and a cough...Yuck! The worst part is, Jackson had a small fever before I laid him down for his nap. He has been acting ok today but he felt a little warm so I checked his temp and it's a little high so I gave him some Motrin, fed him, and put him down. He's been sleeping for close to 2 hours. I hope he gets over it quickly because I know how gross it made me feel!

Some announcements:
I will be putting up a new giveaway and review sometime between today and tomorrow. Free fluff for someone!

Prefold week is coming up very quickly! I am just waiting on one more vendor before I have details for you!

I will be doing a Holiday Gift Guide complete with reviews and giveaways!

And my last announcement...Jackson has been crawling for 2 weeks and is INTO EVERYTHING! He is definitely keeping me crazy busy!

And also a question...
Would you all like to see more personal posts or should I stick with reviews and giveaways?

How I Stumbled Upon Cloth Diapers...

This post is part of the Cloth Diapering Bloggers and Dirty Diaper Laundry hosted Cloth Diaper Carnival that is held every month. Many bloggers get together and write about the same topic. This month is “Where did you first hear about/ see cloth diapers?”

While I was pregnant with Jackson, I stumbled across the online forums at JustMommies.com I joined a board specific to my due date and actively got to know a ton of other ladies due around the same time as me. I would lurk on other boards there (they have a ton!) and one day I noticed a "Cloth Diapering" board. Before stumbling upon this message board, I had no idea that cloth diapers were still around or that they were so cute and advanced!
While still pregnant, I really though about cloth but my husband would have nothing to do with it! He said "No" so I dropped it.

Fast forward to July. Jackson was 4 months old and I had come across something online that made me realize how bad disposable diapers actually were for the environment. I'm pretty sure it was on the gDiapers website...I was looking into gDiapers because I had seen them at Babies R Us. I have always been worried about the environment and decided that I was going to switch. That is how my blog came to be!
I started buying diapers, started up my blog and just kind of told my husband that we were switching to cloth diapers. He was against it again but I told him I would be doing the laundry so it shouldn't matter that much to him anyways! I also said I'd deal with diaper changes and let him in on how much money we could be saving. He was game. (And he even does diaper changes now!)

If I hadn't been unable to sleep and had never stumbled across JustMommies.com and their Cloth Diapering Forums, I would never have known what was available as far as diapering choices go. I think a huge majority of the cloth diapering families have discovered cloth, one way or another, online.
Hopefully cloth diapering information will be spread through word of mouth and more and more people will be open to trying it!

How did you find out about cloth diapers??

Gro Baby Bio-Soakers

Have you heard about the new Gro Baby Bio Soakers?

They are made by The Natural Baby Co. and are meant to be used with the Gro Baby shells that you already have.
The Bio Soaker Pads are:
Biodegradable & Compostable
Breathable & Hypo-Allergenic
Fragrance & Dye Free
Plastic Free
Chlorine Free
The soakers have a sticky spot on the back of them so they just stick inside your shell!  These would be great for traveling on long trips or just for short trips to the store!

I already am a HUGE fan of our Gro Baby diapers and this makes the diapering system even more convenient.  You can buy the Bio Soakers here.  They are 19.99 for 50 soakers.
If you haven't heard about the Gro Baby diapering system yet, they are a one size diaper that consist of an outer shell and then snap-in soakers.  We love our Gro Baby diapers and use them all of the time.  They are PERFECT on my tall, skinny baby!

Jackson is actually rocking one of his Gro Baby diapers in my blog header!

Gro Baby is having a promotion on their Facebook site that if you blog about the new soakers, they will send you a Bio Soaker intro package...so if everything goes well, I will be getting one for free!  Check out their facebook site and blog about this for yourself!

Excuses, Excuses.

If you still haven't tried cloth diapering yet, there are several things that might be holding you back including time, money and inconvenience.

This is me trying to convince you to give it a shot:

Time...I wash dirty diapers 2-3 times a week, normally 3.  It doesn't take long, all I'm doing is pushing some buttons on a machine which takes a few seconds.  The longest part of my laundry routine is actually stuffing the diapers and putting them away, which I don't mind...I don't have to go to the store to buy diapers when I run out, I just wash them...to me that's a time saver.
To see my wash routine, go here.

Money...Yes, the start up cost of cloth diapering is considerably higher than using disposables...but you only have to pay for them once.  You don't have to buy diapers every month that you're just throwing away.  Instead of spending around .15-.25 per diaper change, you save money every time you reuse a diaper.  You can cloth diaper for a very low cost by using prefolds and covers.  As with everything else that comes with having a baby, you can spend as little as you need to or as much as you want with cloth diapers.
Also, don't forget about the trial packages of cloth diapers that you can get so you can try them out for a few weeks to see how you like it.  It is a really risk free way to try cloth as you can get most of your money back (there is usually a very small fee if you return the diapers after your trial period).  You can read more about cloth diaper trial packages here.

Inconvenience...Some people think it's really hard to deal with cloth diapers but I really don't think they are much different from disposables.  Instead of wadding up a sposie and throwing it in a trash can or diaper pail, you just throw the dirty cloth diaper in a wet bag.  Instead of emptying out a disgusting smelling diaper genie/champ (you know what smell I'm talking about), you just toss the load of dirty diapers in the washer, with no gag inducing smells, which I think is way more convenient!
When going out for the day, just throw a small wet bag and a few cloth diapers into your diaper bag and you are good to go.
For poopy diapers, get a diaper sprayer to make clean up a breeze.  You can use flushable liners when you are out and about to make dealing with the messy diapers simple or you can just spray them out when you get home.
For cloth diapering terminology go here and here.

What is keeping you from cloth diapering?  Is there anything you want to know?

Guest Post for Zwaggle!

Hey everyone!

Have you heard of the site Zwaggle
Zwaggle is a social marketplace for parents to share their kids' used gear, such as strollers, clothes and sports equipment, with other parents.  It is really simple - you earn Zoints (Zwaggle speak for points) for the items you share with another Zwaggle family and then use those Zoints to get something you need from a different Zwaggle family.  There are members in all 50 states and trading can happen as locally or as nationwide as you'd like.  The only cost is shipping, if applicable.  The community is made up of parents who want to save money and the planet.

I learned about Zwaggle when I went to BlogHer '09 and met a representative of the company -- Ally!  I immediately thought it was a great idea!
Ally sent me an e-mail a couple of weeks ago and asked if I could do a guest post on the Zwaggle Blog.  I sent her a post about eco-friendly parenting and would love for you to check it out!
The post is located here.

When you sign up for Zwaggle, you would normally get 25 zoints,  BUT as a follower of my blog, if you want to sign up, just put the invitation code "Holly" and you'll get 40 zoints to start!  That's 15 extra zoints for you just for being a blog follower!

I love the site, it's a great way to recycle your baby gear and get what you need for your little one WITHOUT SPENDING MONEY!
What's not to love?!

Love it!

I still will never understand the people that try to say that disposable diapers are better for the environment...it just makes no sense whatsoever!

Here is a great article:
