Excuses, Excuses.

If you still haven't tried cloth diapering yet, there are several things that might be holding you back including time, money and inconvenience.

This is me trying to convince you to give it a shot:

Time...I wash dirty diapers 2-3 times a week, normally 3.  It doesn't take long, all I'm doing is pushing some buttons on a machine which takes a few seconds.  The longest part of my laundry routine is actually stuffing the diapers and putting them away, which I don't mind...I don't have to go to the store to buy diapers when I run out, I just wash them...to me that's a time saver.

Money...Yes, the start up cost of cloth diapering is considerably higher than using disposables...but you only have to pay for them once.  You don't have to buy diapers every month that you're just throwing away.  Instead of spending around .15-.25 per diaper change, you save money every time you reuse a diaper.  You can cloth diaper for a very low cost by using prefolds and covers.  As with everything else that comes with having a baby, you can spend as little as you need to or as much as you want with cloth diapers.
Also, don't forget about the trial packages of cloth diapers that you can get so you can try them out for a few weeks to see how you like it.  It is a really risk free way to try cloth as you can get most of your money back (there is usually a very small fee if you return the diapers after your trial period).  You can read more about cloth diaper trial packages here.

Inconvenience...Some people think it's really hard to deal with cloth diapers but I really don't think they are much different from disposables.  Instead of wadding up a sposie and throwing it in a trash can or diaper pail, you just throw the dirty cloth diaper in a wet bag.  Instead of emptying out a disgusting smelling diaper genie/champ (you know what smell I'm talking about), you just toss the load of dirty diapers in the washer, with no gag inducing smells, which I think is way more convenient!
When going out for the day, just throw a small wet bag and a few cloth diapers into your diaper bag and you are good to go.
For poopy diapers, get a diaper sprayer to make clean up a breeze.  You can use flushable liners when you are out and about to make dealing with the messy diapers simple or you can just spray them out when you get home.

What is keeping you from cloth diapering?  Is there anything you want to know?

  2. Some people worry that they'll get more leaks with cloth diapers, but that's often not the case. With cloth diapers, we didn't get the newborn poo blowouts that we got with disposables. That meant less clothing laundry!
